Building activity

WHAT’S BEING
built.

New buildings mean new properties to lease and new businesses to open. Census Building Permits Survey, August 2026.

Builders in the Hickory metro were authorized to build 2,532 new housing units from January through August 2026, 18% more than the 2,143 in the same months of 2025.

18% of those units are in buildings with five or more homes, against 32% nationally.

What this means for your site

BUILT FOR
Hickory.

What we would plan into a Hickory website, based on the numbers above.

Talk through your site
  1. 01

    Room for new projects

Housing permits are up 18% over the same months last year. Each new project needs a name, a site plan, and a pre-leasing page, and the retail around it usually follows.

  2. 02

    Unit sizes and rental links

Self-storage operators are 1.37 times as concentrated here as nationally. A facility site should show unit sizes, current rates if you publish them, and a direct link to rent or reserve.

  3. 03

    North Carolina license details

Brokerage websites in North Carolina carry specific disclosure requirements (21 NCAC 58A .0105). We build them into the footer and listing templates, so every page that advertises a property has them.

  4. 04

    Accessible by default

Every site we build follows WCAG 2.2 AA practice: readable contrast, keyboard navigation, labeled forms, and text alternatives for images. Federal ADA website lawsuits run into the thousands each year, most of them filed in New York, Florida, and Illinois.

North Carolina rules

WHAT THE LAW
asks of your site.

State rules that change what goes on a business or real estate website in North Carolina, checked against official sources as of October 9, 2026. This is general information, not legal advice; your counsel owns the final wording.

Privacy

Privacy law status in North Carolina

North Carolina has not enacted a comprehensive consumer data privacy law as of October 9, 2026. Privacy laws in other states, and federal rules, can still apply when a site collects data from their residents.

Real estate advertising

What a North Carolina brokerage site must show

21 NCAC 58A .0105 (amended eff. July 1, 2021) Source

A North Carolina broker may advertise brokerage services or real estate only with the consent of the broker-in-charge, and the advertisement must include the name of the firm or sole proprietorship with which the broker is affiliated. Advertisements must identify themselves as a broker's or firm's advertisement and may not consist only of contact information.

What the website needs
  • A broker may not advertise any brokerage service or real estate for others without the consent of the broker-in-charge and without including in the advertisement the name of the firm or sole proprietorship with which the broker is affiliated (21 NCAC 58A .0105(a)(1)).
  • A broker may not advertise any real estate without the written consent of the owner or the owner's authorized agent (21 NCAC 58A .0105(a)(2)).
  • Every advertisement must indicate that it is the advertisement of a broker or firm and may not be confined to contact information only, such as a post office box number, telephone number, street address, internet web address, or e-mail address (21 NCAC 58A .0105(b)).
  • A limited nonresident commercial broker must also follow Rule .1809 in advertising that relates to his or her North Carolina broker status (21 NCAC 58A .0105(c)).
  • Commission guidance published in its December 2025 bulletin states that on social media the firm name must be included in the actual ad content, not just in the broker's bio or profile.

Accessibility

The federal ADA

ADA Title III Source

Title III of the ADA covers businesses open to the public, but the Department of Justice has no regulation that sets a technical standard for private business websites. DOJ's web guidance says businesses have flexibility in how they make their websites accessible and points to WCAG as a helpful existing technical standard. Federal appeals courts have not agreed on when a website is covered, so a website's legal status can depend on where a lawsuit is filed and whether the site is connected to a physical location. North Carolina has no separate website accessibility statute for private businesses in our research, so WCAG 2.2 AA is the practical target.

We own ten homes at Casa De Laguna and were still sending people to a site built in 2013. Noah pulled the photos and details out of the old site, designed a logo from the rooflines and the pond, and put the community, the homes and current availability in one place. It’s the first time the website has looked like the place we actually rent.
