The project

A website for
MAY Centers.

MAY Centers develops, leases and manages community shopping centers in California. Its website dated from 2005, and its opening animation no longer played. Tim May, the company’s president, asked for a site that leads with the company, brings back the drawing that used to open it, shows Plaza Vallarta Palmdale, which MAY Centers developed, and keeps every earlier center in his own words.

01 / Before

The 2005 site.

The old home page opened with a Flash animation that drew MAY Centers buildings line by line. Browsers stopped running Flash at the end of 2020, so visitors saw an empty box with the message “Couldn’t load plugin.”

The previous MAY Centers home page: a sky-blue header, a welcome text box, an empty panel reading Couldn’t load plugin, four project photos and a 2005 copyright line

02 / The drawing

Drawn from the center.

The new home page brings the idea back with the company’s current project. It draws four buildings at Plaza Vallarta Palmdale one at a time, and each drawing gives way to the photograph it was made from. We made the drawings from the October 2026 photographs as AI-assisted line art, then cleaned them up and converted them to pen strokes that the page draws in order.

03 / Plaza Vallarta Palmdale

The current project.

Plaza Vallarta Palmdale was developed from the ground up by MAY Centers with Vallarta Supermarkets and completed in 2015. Its page has the center’s facts, the construction film, drone photographs of each building taken for the site in October 2026, and the site plans.

04 / Film

Construction film.

The job-site camera photographed Shop 2 from June to December 2015. We put its 115 photographs in order as a film, from site work and foundation through framing, roof, plaster and paint. The website plays it with the stage and date of each photograph; this copy runs at twice the speed.

05 / Past projects

Every earlier center.

The five centers from the old site each have a page with Tim’s description, the photographs from his archive (some retouched) and a link to the location on Google Maps. The site works the same at phone width.
